Introduction
Often in a form it is helpful to arrange related questions into sections - for example you questions about biographic data in one section and transaction data in another. Not only does this help your field officer know where they currently are in the form, sections within TaroWorks are especially useful for the following reasons:
- You can change the order of sections when building your form, this eliminate the tedious task of moving questions one by one;
- You can set questions in a section to show all on one page to better present them on the device as sometimes it is better to have all related questions displayed together;
- You can set show/hide logic for one section instead of setting them for individual questions inside that section;
- You can make a section repeat a certain number of times, such as when you need to collect info on separate family members. This is done via Repeat Sections.
This article will describe how you can add, edit and delete sections. Please note that is not recommended that a mobile user repeat a section more than 100 times in a single form.
How to Add a Regular Section
- Edit an existing draft form or start a new one. Go to the Question Builder tab.
- On the left margin, click Regular (red arrow) to add the section to the bottom, or click and drag it to insert into your form.
- Enter a Caption (green arrow). This is the text that will be displayed at the top of the screen.
- Click Show all question on one page (blue arrow) if you wish to have all questions in this shown in one page stacked vertically.
- Click Save to save the section.
How to Add a Repeat Section
- Edit an existing draft form or start a new one. Go to the Question Builder tab.
- On the left margin, click Repeat to add the section to the bottom, or click and drag it to insert into your form.
- Enter a Caption. This is the text that will be displayed at the top of the screen.
- Click Show all questions on one page if you wish to have all questions in this shown in one page stacked vertically. Note: You cannot create skip condition dependencies between questions that are displayed on the same page.
- For the option Set Repeat Times, choose Unlimited if you wish the section to keep repeating until the field officer chooses it to stop. You can also choose Based on numeric value from to indicate which question will drive the number of times the section is repeated. This is also known as a “Limited Repeat”.
- Check Display Repeat Section as a Table if you'd like the questions in this section to be displayed as columns in a table. If you're planning to update existing records with this section by passing in reference id's, you should choose Unlimited Set Repeat Times. If you are creating new records with this section, or the mobile user will be manually entering the reference id's you can choose either option for Set Repeat Times.
- Click Save to save the section.
How to Edit/Delete any Sections
- ScoringClick Edit (green arrow) to open the section up for editing. (This is not available while you are editing another section or question.)
- Click Delete (red arrow) to remove the section and all questions in it. (This is not available while you are editing another section or question.)
- Sections themselves cannot be scored.
- Scores for questions inside a repeating section are added together.
Logic
- You can set show/hide logic for a regular or repeat section as normal.
- You cannot use sections as a condition for setting logic
Field Mapping
- Sections themselves cannot be mapped to any fields.
Passing Values through Hierarchy Drill Down
- You cannot pass values into sections as they are not a question.
Sections on Mobile
- Tips and Tricks Section titles are displayed at the top of the page just under the Job name.
- Title for repeat sections has a number after it to help the field officer know which iteration he or she is currently in.
- At the end of an Unlimited repeating section, the field officer will be presented with the choice to repeat the section again (called ‘Group’ here) by choosing Add Group or to continue with the next section by choosing Do Not Add.
- An Unlimited Repeat will display at least once. Use logic if you wish to hide it in certain situations.
- A Limited Repeat will be skipped entirely if the answer to the controlling whole number question is blank, zero or less than zero. Be careful if required fields are mapped to questions within as that can cause the completed job to not sync correctly.
